To see how long it takes to get a paint surface that will withstand pulling off the vinyl test greater dry times overnight doesn t work for you so go at 24 hrs 36 hrs 48 hrs on 3 samples or 3 spots on the same sample piece and see when the paint is fully cured.

When you pull up your vinyl stencil pull it up against the grain of the wood.

I like to paint my base coat onto the wood board before working on and cutting out my vinyl.
Then i pull the transfer tape off in the opposite direction of the grain.

David we ve had the same problem here with the paint and sealer coming up on the transfer tape i ve had to let my paint cure for about three days before i applied any vinyl to it.

But if you use a permanent vinyl as a temporary paint masking stencil the vinyl can leave adhesive residue and even pull up paint.
When paint is set it isn t shiny anymore but is not completely dry.
